The youngest pupils at Crosfields have been enjoying a new SMART Board touch-enabled LCD display in the nursery. Unlike many SMART boards which involve children using a pen to activate the screen, Crosfields have invested in a state of the art hand-touch screen to make ICT life and learning easy for their youngest pupils. All of the specialist Early Years games that are normally controlled on a computer by pointing and clicking a mouse, can be controlled just by touching the screen.
The children aged between 3 and 4 years were fascinated and delighted with the new piece of kit, which has just been added to the nursery. The SMART board, fixed to the wall at floor level, enables easy access for the pupils. With excellent graphics and sound, the SMART board is a really engaging tool for teachers to use with small children. Another excellent feature of the new SMART board is the absence of a projector which means that no shadows are cast on the screen as the children use it.
A wide range of Early Years software is available, so the SMART board adds another dimension to how children learn their topics in the nursery, as well as developing their ICT skills.
Janey McDowell, Head of Pre Prep commented: ‘The children have a real curiosity for all things technological and this SMART board is a great piece of technology. It is intuitive to use and a wonderful resource for learning. With a new outdoor classroom recently opened in the school grounds, children in our care really do have an amazing breadth of facilities and resources at their fingertips.’
