There is a healthy and enthusiastic interest in Drama at Crosfields. This subject has been included in the curriculum timetable in its own right throughout the school. Drama touches children deeply and hands the learning experience over to them.
A Senior production, a Year 5 production, a Junior School production and Pre-prep production take place each academic year. Many children also enter the local drama festivals and take Speech and Drama examinations.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, 2010
The Year 8 Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, was a great success with superb acting and singing from the whole cast. The performances to the parents were both excellent with everyone declaring the show an outstanding success. All the pupils did extremely well but special mention has to be made to those pupils who took the lead roles. The two narrators, Todd Harris and Charles Marsden, who had so much to learn and upon which so much of the show rested did extremely well. Joel Allen‘s portrayal of Joseph showed real maturity along with super singing and stage presence. Ruaridh Shepperd grew into the part of the Pharoah and certainly became a true ‘Elvis.’ All the brothers and ‘Jacob’ played their parts with conviction with Tom Smith Zaitlik, Reiss Simpson, George Stovell, Oliver Kenyon proving what wonderful singing voices they had. David Brown and Ben Davis both use their considerable acting talents to the full as brothers as well as Mr and Mrs Potiphar, causing much amusement with their comic timing.
Sam Dalton, Alex Withers, Paul Mahoney, Jonathan Graham, Joe Bartlett and Toby Heywood -Bourne were always to be relied on to act their hearts out and to sing with gusto. Rohan Dale and Peter Bethel played their roles of ‘butler’ and ‘baker’ with a sincerity that the audience really appreciated. Two boys who deserve to be specially thanked are Oli Costin- Pratt and Robert Drake. They played the part of the camel ‘Cedric.’ This was no mean feat as their costume was made of fake fur and they nearly melted the sweltering July heat. A final mention must go to the wonderful ‘staff chorus’ who entered in the spirit of the show singing and dancing with such aplomb. Thanks go to everyone who helped in making the show such a success.
