Football Tour Holland 2011

Monday 24th October – Departure from Crosfields School

After a quick flight to  Amsterdam  and the transfer, we safely arrived in  Eindhoven  and our hotel. We went straight for a 3 course dinner, before the boys retired to their rooms for bed time.

Tomorrow the boys will go and watch the PSV Eindhoven 1st team squad train ahead of their match on Wednesday night. We will then go for a guided tour around the ground followed by the first match in the afternoon.

Tuesday 25th October

This morning, the boys helped themselves to a buffet breakfast ahead of the long day ahead. We drove to the Phillips Stadium, to watch the 1st team train. Despite the drizzle and cold wind the boys were able to experience first hand, how professionals train and prepare ahead of a match.

We then ate lunch in the ground, before entering the club shop and purchasing anything from a key ring, to a replica shirt. After the excitement of the shopping, we then progressed to the stadium tour, where we were shown behind the scenes of the clubs changing rooms, corporate boxes and the media rooms.

After a quick stop back at the hotel, the boys were back out to play their matches against NWC Asten. All games were very exciting and high scoring. It seems defensive play was somewhat left back in England as the U10 team came back from 2-1 down to win 7-5, the mixed team of U10 and U11, won a resounding 8-1 and the U11 team lost 7-5 to a very good team. All boys enjoyed their first experience of playing for Crosfields abroad and are looking forward to the upcoming matches.

Tomorrow, the boys will train at the PSV training facility, before going back to the Phillips stadium, to partake in the club’s educational activities and lunch. They will then go back to the training ground and play a developmental PSV youth team in an additional fixture, before the evening match back at the Phillips stadium. A long day lies ahead, for the boys who had an early night and a chance for revision.

Wednesday 26th October

Today was a very long day, almost 12 hours in duration, which encompassed, the boys training at the PSV training facilities, taking part in the PSV educational programme “playing for success”, playing a friendly match against a community at the PSV training facility and ending with a trip to the Phillips arena. The boys saw PSV win 3-0 over FC Lisse and took part in a Mexican wave with 30,200 fans.

Thursday 27th October

The boys all enjoyed a nice long sleep last night and a big breakfast before our trip to Arnhem  battle fields. Mr Boyd our Historian in residence, recounted to the boys stories and information about the battles that took place around the area and the significance of them. We then went to the Arnhem  War Museum and were able to learn more about the place, tactics and weapons used in the wars. The boys were able to walk through a war experience that was set in the basement of the museum. On the drive back to Eindhoven, we travelled over the John  Frost  Bridge, named after the Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Airborne Division in  Arnhem. His force of 750 Allied troops, withheld 10,000 German troops for 4 days of the 9 day battle.

The final game against FC ONDO, saw 3 very exciting games. The U11 team recovered from 2-0 to win 3-2 ina tense and exciting game. All of the boys worked incredibly hard and produced a great performance playing on a large pitch. The mixed team lost 2-1 inthe last minute but again it was a very close game. The U10 boys finished the tour winning 5-3. All of the boys have shown great progress in their ability and have thrived in different situations they have found themselves in this tour.

At dinner, we were able to celebrate Alfie Rigby’s birthday, with a loud and excitable rendition of happy birthday, followed by three cheers. It was a great way to show the team spirit that has been created by all of the boys regardless of year group or team that they may be in back at Crosfields.

Tomorrow the boys will have a final check of their rooms and check out aroundmidday. We shall then drive toAmsterdamfor a little sightseeing and then to the airport for the flight home.

When we arrive back in England, Mr Dinsdale, will be contacted, who will then send a clarion call, announcing our estimated time or arrival back at  Crosfields  School. On the bus journey home fromLuton, the boys will be given their passport, EHIC card and any remaining money in the bank. We will also allow the boys to buy drinks and snacks in the airport, but I would also recommend, bringing a drink and a snack with you to school.
