Crosfields believes that children flourish when their personal, social and emotional needs are met and where there are clear and appropriate expectations for their behaviour. Children need to feel a sense of connection and to be encouraged to discover how capable they are. They need to learn the important social skills of respect, problem solving, co-operation and concern for others. This long term goal requires support, encouragement, continued teaching. The dignity of the children is respected at all times by the staff at Crosfields who endeavour to provide the children with positive role models and show them respectful ways of dealing with problems they come across.
Bullying in any of its forms is not tolerated. Please see the Anti-Bullying Policy for further information.
High standards of behaviour, general conduct and attitude are expected at all times. All staff are responsible for setting, maintaining and improving these standards; staff lead by example.
- To this end the children should not see a casual or relaxed approach from staff.
- Staff must not allow relationships with the children to become too familiar.
- Staff must not “turn a blind eye” to any incident which deserves recognition or correction.
Below are some pointers that we should all follow:
- Insist on high standards of conduct, behaviour, manners, dress and cleanliness at all times.
- Draw children’s attention to incidents where the above do not meet set standards.
- Maintain discipline at all times both inside the classroom and outside – including communal places such as the dining hall and grounds.
- Do not allow children to answer back or make unkind and sarcastic remarks towards their peers or members of staff.
The following are strong recommendations:
- Classes should enter and be dismissed from lessons in an orderly fashion and should not leave the room until it is neat and tidy.
- Morning Collect should be a silent start to the day to provide the opportunity for reflection. Children should arrive and leave in silence and all staff present should help supervise this.
- Stop children running in between lessons.
- Only children under supervision of a member of staff should be allowed in class rooms at break times.
- Duty staff should be vigilant in checking communal areas.
This Policy also applies to EYFS.
