Autumn Term

Large ball skills and games

  • To show different ways of travelling in wide and thin spaces
  • To control the ball by rolling, patting and aiming at targets
  • To learn dribbling skills using feet and hands
  • To follow instructions and to develop the correct throwing action
  • To be able to bounce the ball with control
  • To learn kicking skills and to reinforce dribbling skills
  • To control equipment in respect to direction, and to respect the equipment used

Spring Term

Rocking and rolling

The children will be taught

  • The concept of rocking as a movement: thinking about and trying out body parts on which they can rock
  • To combine rocking and rolling actions, adapting floor work to the apparatus
  • To plan and link a sequence of movements together smoothly
  • To be able to roll on or along apparatus safely
  • To spin, rock, turn and roll with control on various parts of the body

Wide, narrow and curled

  • To travel, balance and jump confidently showing a variety of body shapes on different levels
  • To show different shaped balances and travelling, with the emphasis being close to the ground or far away from it
  • To plan a sequence of patterns using 2 or 3 movements
  • To show sequences with a clear beginning and end

Summer Term

Bats and balls and Skipping

The children will:

  • Practise  from one foot to another, continuing quick and slow movements
  • Learn to handle and control a raquet
  • Work in partnerships with a shared goal
  • learn to hit the ball in different directions into a space
  • Learn to use a skipping rope
  • learn to be aware of court or pitch markings
