Topic:  ‘Ourselves’

We will be looking at the

  • Differences and similarities between humans
  • Human and animal young
  • Survival
  • Growing and getting older
  • Communication
  • Height and movement
  • Collect and organise data and present it in a chart

Spring Term

Topic: ‘Sound and Hearing’

During the term the pupils will learn:

  • that there are many different sources of sound
  • to explore sounds using their sense of hearing
  • to make observations of sounds by listening carefully
  • to explore sounds using the sense of touch
  • that we use our sense of hearing for a range of purposes, including warnings
  • that some sounds can be heard from a long distance
  • that the volume of sound alters according to distance from the source
  • to present results and to interpret them
  • to make and record observations and present them in drawings and writing
  • to make and record measurements
  • to communicate what happened using diagrams and charts to present results
  • to make comparisons between results and use them to draw conclusions

Summer Term

Topic: Growth

the children will learn to:

  • Recognise and name some common plants. e.g. dandelion, daisy
  • Know that plants have roots, stems, leaves and flowers
  • Know that green plants need light to grow
  • Know that plants need water to survive

Topic: ‘Light and Dark’

The children will:

  • Learn that light is essential for seeing things
  • Know that there are many different sources of light
  • Observe and compare different light sources
  • Know that light sources can vary in brightness
  • Know that shiny surfaces can only be seen in the presence of light
  • Learn to recognise that shiny objects are not light sources
  • Learn how to keep safe with or without light sources
  • Learn that it is dangerous to look directly at the sun
