Autumn Term

Writing stories and creating pictures using a variety of tools.

Spring Term

This term focuses on “search” techniques using a CD-ROM.

The children will learn to:

• Understand similarities between contents pages in a book and CD-ROM menus.
• Perform a category search.
• Perform an index search
• Perform a key-word search
• Navigate using hyper-text links
• Highlight text
• Select an appropriate search technique to locate information (using Encarta)

They will also begin to learn how to import text and pictures into their own text files.

Summer Term

Unit 1:

focuses on the pupils producing their own information leaflet.

Unit 2:

focuses on the use of ICT in controlled devices, and includes:

• Discussing the uses of control technology
• Understanding that machines need to follow programmed instructions in a specific order
• Learning how to program routes for the Bee-Bot (a small robot)
• Using the computer to program shape drawing and repeated patterns

During this term, we also aim to look briefly at how computers can be used in data handling, both in processing and presenting data.
