Autumn Term

Our aim is for the children to achieve the objectives listed under the following headings:

Number

  • Know by heart all addition and subtraction facts for each number to at least 20
  • Begin to reason about numbers, generate simple patterns and be able to predict
  • Count, read, write and order whole numbers to at least 100 and know what each digit represents
  • Describe and extend simple number sequences e.g. odd/even numbers, counting on or back in ones or tens from any two-digit number
  • Understand the place value of each digit in a given number
  • Understand that subtraction is the opposite of addition
  • Use the knowledge that addition can be done in any order to do mental calculations more efficiently
  • Be able to double and halve a number

Topic

  • Recognise the relationship between the coins 1p to £2 and find total values
  • Exchange a coin for its equivalent amount in smaller coins
  • Estimate, measure and compare lengths using metres and centimetres
  • Identify 2D shapes and describe their properties.
  • Recognise and draw lines of symmetry
  • Know the days of week, months of the year and the seasons

Problem solving

  • Solve addition and subtraction problems in real life.
  • Choose and use appropriate operations and efficient calculation strategies to solve problems and begin to be able to explain how the problem was solved

General

  • Consolidate independent working skills
  • Organise and check their own work
  • Acquire and consolidate the language of Maths and use it to communicate clearly about their work

Homework

Homework will be sent home in a folder on a weekly basis.

It will be linked to the Number or Topic concept covered that week in school.
