Spring Term
Topic: Special People
The children are introduced to the idea that there are people who do things which make them special. They learn about the roles of people in the past in founding or developing their religions, and are introduced to the concepts of authority, obedience and being chosen by God.
A major theme is the devotion to God of people who are willing to give up worldly things. The pupils are told the stories of key figures from Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.
Summer Term
Topic: Special Places
The children will first be introduced to a place that is not linked to any of the major religions but is thought to have some religious significance. They will discuss the idea of a spectacular and awe-inspiring place and think about the people who might have built it.
We shall discuss the idea of places people choose to go to alone to be close to God or to pray, and then look at places of worship.
