The Arts at Crosfields

Art

The Art Room in Oaks

Art and Design is a foundation subject in the National Curriculum.  At Crosfields, we use the National Scheme of Work as the basis of curriculum planning and the programme is designed to develop the pupils’ skills and awareness as they progress through the school.  Our intention is to enable all pupils, regardless of ability, to develop self expression through understanding and to develop self-confidence. We aim to provide a stimulating environment.  Pupils are presented with exciting and challenging projects, opening towards the broader possibilities without being prescriptive.  We aim to provide a learning environment where self-discipline is encouraged in order to complete tasks and projects.

In the early years the Art course is integrated with the other subjects and is taught by the class teacher.  The final three years are taught by the specialist Art teacher.

Pottery

The design and creation of ceramic work along with the learning of pottery skills form a popular and important part of the Art programme.

Crosfields has a purpose-built pottery workshop with a large kiln and facilities for the construction and decoration of ceramic ware.  The pupils love working with clay and they are very proud of their results.
