Welcome back to the start of the Spring Term after an extra few days holiday for us all! The snow has made the start of 2010 very memorable. We hope you have all had a good Christmas and send you best wishes for the coming year.
Our hobbies programme is now up and running and you should all have received a sheet telling you the choices you have been given this term. If you have any questions please come in and ask.
Matches do not start until Thursday, 28 January with the Under 8 boys playing rugby away at Hall Grove and all the girls playing hockey at home to St Pirans. The Under 9 boys have their first match on Friday, 29 January at home against Elstree. Letters will be sent home with team details much nearer the time. All matches for the term are detailed in the Calendar.
Please note there are several Inter-House competitions this term. The first is a first for us as well, an Inter-House Netball competition on Thursday, 25 February at 11.15 a.m. which will involve all the girls in both year groups. Inter-House Rugby for all of Year 4 is on Tuesday, 16 March and for Year 3 on Thursday, 18 March, both at 11.15 a.m. The annual Cross-Country races will take place the following week on Tuesday, 23 March at 2.00 p.m. We hope many of you will be able to come and watch these events.
Another new venture for the Junior School is a dance recital for all those involved in learning dance at Crosfields in Year 3 and Year 4. This will be an opportunity for the children to show you what they have been learning in their classes. The Junior performances will start at 1.15 p.m.
As usual the term has a number of musical events.
On Wednesday, 10 February all children who have been in the choirs since the beginning of the year have been given the opportunity to attend a performance of ‘The Lion King’ in London. Letters will be sent out nearer the time with final details about arrangements. Those not going will have some different activities on that day too!
We have 2 Informal Concerts on Thursday 4 February and Thursday 11 February They will start at 4.30 p.m. and will take place in the Theatre. These concerts usually last about 45 minutes and are very relaxed occasions. If your child would like to play in this concert please inform their peripatetic music teacher, Mr Adams or Miss Holleyoakes. Remember your child can play if they learn an instrument outside of Crosfields but they will be asked to play to one of the music staff so they can hear the chosen piece.
The Spring Concert takes place on Thursday, 25 March at 7.00 p.m. If your child is asked to perform you will be sent a letter nearer the time. Most individual performances at these concerts are given by members of the Senior School.
There is no Junior School production this term but rehearsals for our next event will begin in music lessons towards the end of term ready to perform in the Summer term.
The Senior School Library is holding two open afternoons this term; the first is on Tuesday, 26 January and the second on Tuesday, 16 March both from 4.15 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. This is the library situated in the Oaks and is a great resource for the school. More details will be in the Newsletter in the coming weeks.
Talking of Newsletters, please remember these are going to be online from this term and no paper copies will be produced! You will be emailed a link each Friday so remember to keep your email address up to date. Also the ‘Clarion Call’ system will be in operation throughout the term to tell you of cancelled matches, changes to hobbies etc. It is, therefore, vital, that we have your correct mobile numbers. Please contact the School Office with any changes as soon as they occur.
We look forward to seeing you at events over the term but also remember you can come in and see us at any time. Any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or myself. If you cannot come in leave a message with the School Office and we will contact you.
We hope the children, and you, enjoy the exciting events of the coming term.
