Curriculum Outline

The Junior School follows a wide and varied curriculum incorporating all of the outlined objectives for Years 3 and 4.

Literacy and Numeracy

We cover all the recommendations for and seek to support and encourage the children to develop in these vital areas.

Science

This subject features highly and topics include:

  • teeth and healthy eating
  • habitats
  • rocks and soils
  • moving and growing.

ICT

An essential learning tool in many subjects but essential skills, such as word processing are specifically taught.

History

We believe the past is vital to understand our world today; we study topics such as:

  • Ancient Egypt
  • Romans and Celts
  • Anglo Saxons
  • Tudors

Geography

We look at our locality and the wide world through studying the following:

  • Map work
  • Rivers
  • Rainforests
  • Villages
  • Weather

Art and Design Technology

These subjects allow the children to explore and develop their creative potential. We study a variety of  artists and encourage the children to use many different mediums.

Religious Studies and PSHE

The children learn about the many religions in the world today. During the PSHE lessons the children have the opportunities to discuss issues that are relevant to their daily lives.

Sport

This energetic subject is taught by specialist teachers. Over the course of a year, the children learn:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Tag Rugby / Semi-Contact Rugby
  • Athletics.
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Handball
  • Gymnastics
  • Short Tennis
  • Cross Country

A full programme of matches is arranged and everyone has an opportunity to play.

French

This subject, taught by a specialist teacher, is mainly oral based. The learning is supported by interactive activities which enable the children to retain and enjoy this valuable language.

Music

The children have many opportunities to explore the different aspects of music.

The children have the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom. We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities such as:

  • Choir
  • Orchestra
  • Instrumental Groups
  • Art and Craft
  • Creative Design
  • Construction
  • Chess
  • Mind Lab
  • Dance – Ballet, Tap, Street Dance
