Literacy
We will be following the National Literacy Strategy, and will cover the following:
Word Level
High frequency words, using Look, Say, Cover, Check, handwriting, dictionary and thesaurus work, synonyms, prefixes and various new spelling patterns.
Sentence Level
Full stops and capital letters, commas in lists, past and present tenses, functions of verbs, speech marks, question marks and ways of presenting text.
Text Level
Story settings, story openings and endings, expressing views about stories and poems, reciting poems, calligrams and shape poems, reading and preparing playscripts, dialogue, distinction between fact and fiction, locating information in non-fiction texts, making simple records of information from texts, write simple, non-chronological reports from known information and to write for a known audience.
Numeracy
We will be following the National Numeracy Strategy, and will cover:
- place value
- addition facts
- subtraction
- fractions
- multiplication (as repeated addition)
- doubling and halving
- relationship between × and ÷
- multiples of 5 and 10
- 2D shape
- symmetry
- length
- direction
- time
- tally charts
We will also be learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in class.
Science
Our Science topic is Light and Shadow, and the following will be covered:
- light and its uses
- how shadows are formed
- how shadows change in length and position
- movement of the sun
- light travelling through materials.
History
We will be learning about Ancient Egypt in our History topic. We will be looking at:
- locating modern and ancient Egyptian time and place
- life in Ancient Egypt
- how much life depended on the Nile
- differences between the lives of the rich and the poor
- how the Pharaohs and the wealthy Egyptians lived
- who the Egyptians worshipped.
Geography
We will be looking at Map Work in Geography this term. The pupils will:
- distinguish between a side and a plan view
- create simple maps
- design simple symbols to use on a map
- understand the plan view of the school
- look at how the world is laid out
- learn what countries lie in the British Isles
- learn where they live in relation to the places around them on a small and large scale.
ICT
The pupils will be combining texts and graphics this term. They will:
- revise log-on details
- change text
- add graphics to text
- use Web pages
- word process
- use an art package
- use clip art.
Art
The focus in Art this term is to develop skills, and look at different artists. The pupils will be doing:
- decoupage
- colour washing
- clay work
- looking at the work of Paul Klee
- work with oil pastels
- collage
- papier-mâché
- work with salt dough.
DT
In addition to Art, we also have a DT project this term which is on designing photograph frames. The pupils look at:
- how to make paper strong
- how to make frames strong and able to stand freely
- constructing their own design of a photo frame.
PSHE
The PSHE topic for the term is “About Myself” and “Healthy Relationships”. The pupils will look at:
- Who am I?
- Where do I fit in my family?
- What I can tell you about my family
- Do I know myself?
- What is shyness?
- Are there ways to stop bullying?
RE
In RE, the pupils will be focussing on signs and symbols and preparing for Christmas. They will look at:
- the meaning of Remembrance Sunday
- signs and symbols in everyday life
- how Christians prepare for Christmas
- the meaning of the Christingle
- the Christmas story.

European Week at Crosfields
Crosfields' pupils enjoy learning outdoors
