Crosfields School recognises the important and growing role that Information Technology plays both in your child’s education, and in society as a whole.
The school runs a modern PC network running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, as part of a suite of nearly 100 specialist programs used throughout the curriculum in every part of the school. Facilities are managed entirely in-house, which gives the school enormous flexibility to continually improve and adapt our systems to meet the needs of pupils and teachers.
Almost every classroom and teaching space in the school is equipped with interactive whiteboard and AV facilities, and we have two well-equipped ICT suites in The Oaks and Acorns buildings. Careful consideration is given to providing suitable and age-appropriate equipment for your child, with features such as larger screens, bigger fonts, and specially-designed keyboards with lowercase letters for new readers and typists.
Pupils have timetabled ICT lessons every week from Reception onwards. In Year 2, they receive a personal username and password, and can log on to any computer on site within seconds as it if were their own. Pupils are encouraged to customise their computer, play games, and experiment with different programs as part of a structured curriculum that recognises the inquisitive nature of children’s interaction with technology, while promoting the wider theme of responsible use and behaviour that are an intrinsic part of the school’s values.
Specialist teaching is provided from Year 5 onwards, while in the Junior and Pre-Prep, our ICT Co-ordinator works with class teachers to develop and deliver an up-to-date and engaging curriculum. The school also employs a full-time IT Network Manager, who as well as maintaining the computer network, works alongside teaching staff to provide day-to-day assistance and regular ongoing training.
