The White Building

Goodrest - The White BuildingThe Old House, known as ‘The White Building’ or ‘Goodrest’ is the original country house and today incorporates the main school office, the Headmaster’s Study, the Bursary, and the staff room.

The name ‘Goodrest’ is said to have been derived from a visit by King Charles 1st in September 1643 to this site (not the present house) and the comment to his hosts that he had had a ‘good rest’. The name was duly adopted for the house. Only the foundations of the original house remained and the present building was constructed in the 1820’s following the demolition of the 17th Century house.
