Mathematics is a diverse subject; met by everyone in daily life. It is essential that pupils are taught to recognize the power of mathematics and that a positive attitude and enthusiasm to the subject is promoted throughout the school.
We aim to enable pupils to use mathematics to analyse and communicate information in everyday life and to recognize the mathematical knowledge required in new and different situations.
A differentiated mathematics curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of all pupils through a variety of activities including practical tasks, enquiry and experiment. This will ensure a progressive development of mathematical concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes.
Work in mathematics broadly follows the structure of the National Curriculum and the requirements of the Common Entrance Examination. The children work at a level appropriate to their ability; it expected that almost all children will achieve a level 2 by the end of Key Stage 1 and a level 4 by the end of Key Stage 2; many achieving higher.
