Learning Support at Crosfields, through our Learning Empowerment Team, is an integral, cross curricular and whole-school resource housed in a purpose built department.
Our Learning Empowerment Team consists of teaching assistants, experienced teachers and dyslexia specialists who work both in the classroom and individually for more specialised support. A variety of difficulties such as reading, writing, spelling, maths, handwriting, presentation, organisation and study skills are monitored and supported. We also help children with English as an Additional Language support, on a one-to-one basis, in school with a specialist teacher.
Should there be concerns about a child’s progress, in any aspect of their learning, they will be monitored and supported initially within the classroom. Following that, within the school, low level assessments and programmes of support are undertaken in conversation with parents and teachers.
If more individualised one-to-one teaching from a Specialist Teacher is needed, then this will be put in place to fully support the child and an Individual Education Plan will be drawn up. In addition and in conversation with parents, it may be necessary to recommend that external agencies or assessors are contacted to gain better understanding and advice about very specific difficulties. We also work with outside agencies who may need to come into school to give specialised support.
Our Learning Empowerment Team work with Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants to ensure that support is provided when and where necessary.
We have a friendly Learning Empowerment Team throughout the school who aim to provide practical, caring and stigma-free support, to pupils and teachers alike, in order that each child learns at an individual level, builds confidence to empower their learning and can progress at their own pace. We are a resource for parents too and have an open door policy.
Learning Support is included in fees, except EAL (English as an Additional Language), which is extra.
