Fifteen children joined our newest club this term, the Crosfields Development Squad, and they've been taking part in training sessions at the Alpine Snowsports Centre in Aldershot. In September, five of the Crosfields children competed in two teams at the English Schools' Ski Association National Championships (ESSKIA) Dry Slope, along with over 200 children aged between 8 and 17 years old. It was a hive of activity upon arrival at 8.30am, but the Crosfields Team remained cool and successfully completed their first dry slope ski race. There were many different emotions expressed on the day, but the feeling of achievement and happiness far surpassed it all.
Another week and another competition; this time, ten Crosfields children competed in three teams (2 boys’ teams and 1 girls’ team) at the BISS National Indoor Open Ski Championships with the Ski Club of Great Britain. This race formed part of the National Schools Indoor Series. Over 450 children in the same age range as before, took part in the event. Team Crosfields arrived at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead to a very busy, energised and exciting atmosphere but again the children remained calm though excited at the prospect of finally skiing on snow after months of training on dry slopes.
All of the Crosfields teams did well, however, the girls team did particularly well and came third overall in the Junior Girls category, which was a terrific effort. Year 6 pupil Leah was placed 5th in the U14 girls category.
