A colourful array of children in costumes arrived in school recently to participate in a special Medieval Day for pupils in Year 1.
They began the day meeting ‘Lord Phillip’ around the fire pit in Acorns Hall which had been converted into a castle for the day. The knights and princesses then took part in a morning of hands-on and practical activities in their castle which included candle making, weaving, leather work, soap making and creating pots and faces out of clay. Children also had the opportunity to take part in lessons in archery, jousting and warfare. This wonderful, interactive day ended with a banquet with the children taking on roles at the banquet. Lord Philip organised the children into juggling jesters, singers, dancers, and servants who entertained and served food to the lords and ladies on the top table. It was an exciting and memorable day for the pupils that gave them a flavour of life in medieval times.
