Year 7 Land in Normandy

Year 7 Land in Normandy

24 Jun 2019

Crosfields children in Year 7 travelled to Normandy in Northern France for their 5-day residential recently.

Staying in a Château, the Senior girls and boys learnt how to make croissants and bread, how to raise snails and tasted some traditional French recipes.  They also were given the opportunity to walk around some sites of the Somme Battlefields including Lochnagar Crater, trenches and cemeteries.

There were many highlights during the week, but one of the most exciting was meeting the children from Collège St. Vincent in Montdidier with whom children at Crosfields have been exchanging letters since the Autumn term.  It was terrific for the children from both schools to finally meet and put their language skills into practice, as well as allowing the Crosfields children to explore a French school.  They spent their time talking in a lovely “Franglish” and playing games together before enjoying a picnic in the school grounds.

What's more, the weather was kind enough during the trip to allow the children and staff to make a final stop in Boulogne-sur-Mer and have lunch by the beach, before taking the ferry back to England.  It was a memorable week that gave girls and boys the opportunity to experience much of what France has to offer, as well as taking a look around a French school.
