Crosfields heads to the Tate

On Tuesday the GCSE Art students visited the Tate Modern in London, along with our Key stage 3 scholars. For the GCSE students this was an opportunity to gain inspiration for their coursework project titled, “The Every Day”. Over the coming terms our art scholars will also be creating an additional art project during co-curricular time to display at the end of year exhibition and will be using the work seen on this trip as a starting point.
The students spent the morning exploring the Tate Collection and viewing a huge selection of varied work which was both inspirational and posed questions regarding what can be seen as ‘true art’. At Crosfields we believe it is vital for our students to learn about a range of traditional and contemporary artists, and challenge their views and any preconceived notions of art. In the afternoon the students took part in a workshop with a visiting artist in which they explored the use of sound as a medium in art. A fantastic day was had by all!

Silver Duke of Edinburgh

Students in Year 10 have the opportunity to enrol for the silver level of the Duke of Edinburgh award this year. The award scheme exists to empower students to make the most of their time as young people by building experience in skill development, physical activity, volunteering and through the completion of a three-day, two-night expedition. It is very highly regarded by sixth forms and universities. At the silver level, we are offering the expedition both on foot and cycling. Students do not need to have done the bronze level; they can enter at the silver level.

For more information, please have a look at the DofE website and the attached letter. There is an information evening for parents and students enrolling in the award on 10th October, 18:00 in The Performance Space.

#WalkItWednesday

Thank you to many of you who took part in our last ‘Walk it Wednesday’. It was great to see so many participants.

Wednesday 5th October marks our next ‘Walk it Wednesday’ and it would be fantastic to see even more families take part this time around!

If you live too far away to walk, then why not park within our 5-minute walking bubble and walk in from there? If you choose to do this, please remember to park your vehicle safely, in line with the Highway Code and consider our local residents. Click here to see our walking bubble.

Choosing to complete just a short walk to school can be great for our health and our environment!

Parent Revision Talk

As a parent, helping your child revise can often be a frustrating task during the exam period. This evening is designed to help support parents understand the science behind revision strategies and gain practical advice on preparing for examination, right through senior school, GCSE, and A Level examinations. Mr Richard Ebbage, Deputy Headteacher at Crosfields School, will explore the research into effective revision and how students can make the most out of the energy they put in. This will be followed by Mr Ben Stephenson, Director of Sixth Form at Queen Anne’s School, discussing techniques to help manage the stress and anxiety that come with examinations.

This talk is for both students and parents preparing for upcoming examinations and aims to give practical advice and guides to cope with both the physical and psychological pressures that can occur during this time. Register your attendance here.

Car Park Safety
Please beware of pedestrians and cyclists

We would like to remind all drivers to observe the rules of the school car park and remain extra vigilant for pedestrians and cyclists. Please remember to:

  • Stop at the marked pedestrian crossings in order to allow pedestrians to cross safely.
  • Not park on a marked pedestrian crossing.
  • Stick to the maximum speed limit of 5mph whilst driving in the car park.
  • Check your mirrors before opening car doors to double-check for on-coming pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.

Safety is always our biggest priority and we ask all drivers to help us create a safer environment for all that use the car park on a daily basis.
