Juniors Co-Curricular & Enrichment

At Crosfields, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our exceptional co-curricular programme for Juniors offers a rich variety of opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence. With 60–70 activities available each week, every child can discover new interests and build on their strengths.

A diverse weekly programme

Our activities span sport, academic enrichment, creative arts, music and performing arts, nature, and media. Each day offers a balanced selection, ensuring pupils have access to a broad mix of experiences. Many clubs, including coding, 3D design, science quizzes, and a wide range of creative and active options, are included within school fees and run by Crosfields staff before, during, and after school.

Specialist opportunities and facilities

For families seeking even more choice, we offer additional specialist clubs delivered by trusted external providers. These include chess, judo, fencing, golf, LAMDA, and MTech (Music Technology), giving pupils the chance to explore unique interests and develop exceptional skills.

Our facilities help bring every activity to life. Juniors enjoy access to a variable depth swimming pool, full-size floodlit astroturf for year-round sports, a Sports Centre with an iSports wall, a D&T workshop, art rooms, library, theatre, and cricket nets. The Music School hosts peripatetic lessons for instruments ranging from piano to harp, alongside our MTech programme.

Celebrating talent and achievement

Children at Crosfields have countless opportunities to showcase their talents. Pupils regularly compete in local, regional, and national sports events. Our singers and musicians perform in school concerts and beyond, including at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, and take part in charity events alongside high-profile artists. Drama and Performing Arts thrive through the annual Junior production and participation in events like the Woodley Festival.

Opportunities beyond school

Learning through experience is integral to our ethos. Every Junior year group enjoys a residential trip that grows in length and challenge as pupils progress, alongside a full calendar of exciting day trips and visits. These experiences build resilience, teamwork, and independence.

We are committed to ensuring every child feels included and supported. Our varied activity programme is designed to meet different interests and abilities, and we offer language activities for overseas pupils to practise their native language. We also welcome and respond to activity ideas suggested by families within our community.

Enrichment Topics

Presenters’ Programme

Our Presenters’ Programme empowers pupils to become articulate and confident communicators by guiding them through the process of creating and delivering presentations on subjects close to their hearts. This immersive experience not only hones their public speaking skills but also instils a sense of ownership and pride in their chosen topics. The programme takes the form of Rhyme & Reason in Year 4 and the CPQ (Crosfields Project Qualification) in Year 6.

Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Programme

Our innovative Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programme inculcates negotiating skills, risk taking and solution-focussed approaches. We exploit our extensive links with local professionals and businesses providing talks, workshops and hands-on learning experiences. From role-playing careers, to growing their own business incorporating wealth management, we equip our pupils with a self-confidence and resourcefulness to develop character and prepare them for the future workplace.

Performance

Our Performance activity is a vibrant platform for pupils to explore and express their creative potential. This activity encompasses various forms of artistic expression, from theatrical productions to musical performances and dance routines. Pupils learn discipline, collaboration, and dedication while developing skills that go beyond the stage.

Cookery

Cookery serves as a dynamic platform for students to immerse themselves in the art of cooking and culinary creativity. Through hands-on experiences in the kitchen, students develop essential life skills, cultural awareness, and a deep appreciation for the culinary arts.

Volunteering

Our Volunteering at a Local Care Home activity creates a bridge between generations, fostering meaningful connections and nurturing empathy through interactions with elderly residents. This hands-on experience encourages pupils to give back to their community while gaining invaluable life lessons from the wisdom and stories of older generations.

Forest School

Our Forest Schools programme is a child-centred and inspiring learning process that unlocks holistic growth opportunities through regular sessions. Rooted in a long-term approach, this programme embraces play, exploration, and supported risk-taking, developing confidence and self-esteem through hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

British Sign Language

The British Sign Language activity offers pupils a unique journey into the world of non-verbal communication, establishing connections and understanding through the power of signing. This immersive experience enables pupils to embrace inclusivity and bridge communication gaps through a rich and expressive visual language.
