Our Ethos

When our school opened in 1957, with small classes and a clear belief that every child mattered, its aim was to offer a broad education that would develop a ‘well-balanced child’, encouraging each pupil, ‘whatever his gifts, to seek to develop his talents to the full’.

That founding Ethos still drives our school today. What was then described as well-balanced is the all-rounder we know pupils need to be now: independent, broad in outlook, unfettered in their thinking, and ready to embrace a world that demands adaptability as much as qualifications.

Our Ethos is lived daily through an education shaped by three closely connected priorities: excellence and innovation;  community and belonging; and opportunity and growth:

  • Learning here is ambitious, broad and deliberately flexible. We place no limits on success, with teaching that scaffolds and  supports each individual all the way. Innovation is applied in its widest sense, from expert teaching and thoughtful use of  technology to an equal commitment to balance and wellbeing.
  • Cultural difference is our ‘superpower’. With around 40 languages spoken and pupils connecting to almost every corner of the  globe, we are intentionally outward-looking and richly diverse. Every child is known, celebrated and supported. This environment  shapes pupils who are confident, ambitious and broad in outlook, ready to navigate a complex world with curiosity and respect.
  • Our boundless opportunities, with more than 90 extracurricular activities, give pupils the space to discover their passions and  run with them, whether on the sports field, in the arts, in leadership or in service to others. Every pupil can participate and thrive.  There is no bar on who can try, excel or surprise themselves along the way, building confidence and resilience.

Our values

Our values have not been handed down; they have been shaped together with pupils.  Through initiatives such as ‘You Asked, We Did’, pupils see that their opinions carry real  weight, giving them the confidence to express ideas, challenge thoughtfully and help  shape the community they belong to. Rooted in this strong sense of self and belonging, Crosfields pupils grow to be kind,  fearless, unbounded and curious, supported by shared values that guide them as they  embrace their journey ahead.
