Juniors School Day

School Day in Juniors

At Crosfields Juniors, every day is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help pupils embrace their individuality. From the moment they arrive, children step into an environment shaped by innovation, diversity, and opportunity, three pillars that define our community and guide every aspect of school life.

A warm and positive start

Our optional supervised Breakfast Club opens from 7:30am, giving pupils a calm, sociable and happy beginning to their day. It offers a relaxed space where children can ease gently into the morning alongside their peers, fully supported by staff.

The school day officially begins with registration. Form Tutors create a warm and reassuring start that fosters positive routines. These check-ins underpin strong relationships and equip pupils emotionally and academically for the day ahead.

Learning that inspires

Following registration, pupils attend a Collect (assembly), singing practice, or a House meeting, reinforcing community identity and shared values. Academic lessons begin promptly at 9:00am, delivered through a thoughtfully structured timetable of 30-minute or one-hour sessions depending on the subject. This format helps maintain focus, variety and progression throughout the morning.

Crosfields’ approach to academic life is agile and ambitious. Lessons are designed to challenge all learners through high expectations and purposeful teaching that supports every child’s growth. Whether pupils are already confident or still discovering their strengths, teachers use adaptive techniques so all children feel stretched, secure and able to thrive.

Play, friendship, and exploration

Breaktime at 10:30am gives children the chance to unwind, reconnect and enjoy a healthy snack provided by the school. The outdoor spaces offer a rich mix of activities: the astro turfs for energetic play, climbing frames for adventure, the library for quieter exploration, and peaceful zones for relaxation and games. These varied options ensure every child can spend their break in a way that suits their interests and energy levels.

After play, lessons resume at 11:00am, sustaining the rhythm of purposeful learning as the morning continues.

A shared lunchtime experience

Lunchtime is an important social moment at Crosfields. Pupils eat together in the welcoming dining hall, sharing a delicious meal from a wide range of food options that cater carefully to all dietary needs. The atmosphere is relaxed yet structured, helping children develop independence, table etiquette and confidence as they enjoy conversation with friends and teachers.

Lunchtime flows naturally into a short play period, giving pupils the chance to refresh before returning to afternoon learning.

Learning beyond 4pm

Although the formal school day ends at 4:00pm, the opportunities for growth continue long afterwards. Many pupils choose to stay for Prep, a supervised homework session that allows them to work productively with staff on hand to offer guidance.

Alternatively, children can enjoy an exceptional and wide-ranging co-curricular programme running until 5:30pm. From creative arts, sports and performance to academic enrichment and calmer pursuits, there is something to capture every interest and talent. For families needing extended provision, wraparound care is available until 6:00pm, offering further flexibility and a smooth end to the day.
