Key Stage 3 at Crosfields offers a broad and inspiring curriculum that nurtures curiosity while building strong academic foundations. Pupils study a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science and Languages, alongside Arts, Humanities, PE, Design Technology and Computing. This broad approach ensures every pupil experiences a balanced education that encourages exploration, creativity and confidence as they progress through Seniors.
Academic challenge and support
Our teaching approach is simple: teach to the top and scaffold up. Pupils are continually stretched and supported, helping them develop independence, critical thinking and resilience. Through high expectations and tailored guidance, pupils gain the skills and mindset needed for the demands of GCSEs and future learning. This approach ensures every child feels challenged and capable, growing in confidence as they take on increasingly sophisticated academic tasks.
Preparing for GCSE choices
In Year 9, pupils begin making their GCSE choices from a wide selection of subjects, including creative arts, humanities, languages, sciences and specialist pathways. This breadth enables them to shape a programme of study aligned with their interests and aspirations. Additional opportunities, such as opting for separate sciences, offer further challenge for those seeking to extend their academic journey. This thoughtful guidance helps each pupil make informed decisions as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
Beyond the Classroom
Learning at Crosfields extends far beyond traditional lessons. Through the Senior Enrichment Programme, pupils take part in enterprise initiatives, digital literacy awards, Model United Nations and the Higher Project Qualification. They can also explore sports, performing arts, STEM clubs and begin the Duke of Edinburgh Award from Year 9. XFP explores transferable skills, careers, oracy, revision techniques and entrepreneurship. These opportunities help pupils develop confidence, teamwork and leadership while discovering new passions and strengthening the skills they’ll draw on throughout their school journey.
Our academic ethos
We place high value on effort, rigour and resilience, encouraging pupils to think independently and approach learning with curiosity. Lessons are designed to challenge and inspire, helping pupils grow into confident, enquiring learners. Throughout Key Stage 3, our academic ethos ensures pupils are well prepared not only for GCSEs but for the wider demands of a rapidly changing world. They leave Crosfields equipped with strong foundations and the mindset needed to thrive.
Learning takes place in exceptional facilities within the award winning Aspire building, designed to inspire and support every stage of development. With extensive enrichment opportunities and a forward-thinking approach to teaching, pupils grow in ambition, confidence and curiosity, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of life beyond school.
Innovative learning environment
Pupils benefit from an innovative and technology rich environment, including 1-2-1 Microsoft Surface devices and the use of VR and augmented reality in science. They have access to specialist facilities such as science labs, design workshops, performing arts studios and digital suites. These resources support dynamic, hands-on learning, helping pupils develop practical skills and confidence in new and emerging technologies.
A strong sense of belonging
Small class sizes and excellent pastoral care help every pupil feel known, valued and supported. Form tutors, House Leads, and Heads of Year build close, meaningful relationships with pupils, ensuring they have consistent guidance throughout their Senior School journey. House activities, sports and collaborative projects create a strong sense of community, strengthening friendships and encouraging pupils to contribute positively to school life. This supportive environment helps every child feel part of a thriving, inclusive community.
