Sport

Sport at Crosfields is joyful, inclusive and woven into the fabric of school life from Nursery to Year 11. Guided by specialist teachers and supported by outstanding facilities, pupils grow in confidence, character and wellbeing as they move through each stage of their Crosfields journey. This whole-school approach reflects our core pillars of Innovation, Diversity and Opportunity, offering every child the chance to discover their strengths and embrace new challenges.

A strong start in Pre-Prep

From Nursery onwards, children enjoy specialist led PE, swimming and games lessons designed to build fundamental movement skills and a love of being active. With access to a state-of-the-art swimming pool, a large sports hall and acres of playing fields, pupils feel safe, supported and inspired as they explore physical activity. By the end of Year 2, most children swim independently, laying the groundwork for lifelong water confidence. Early fixtures, interhouse competitions and coeducational games nurture teamwork, resilience and joy from the very beginning.

Progression and play in Juniors

In Years 3 to 6, pupils experience a dynamic and inclusive sports curriculum, including PE, swimming and extended Games sessions. Core sports, football, hockey, rugby, netball and cricket, sit alongside varied opportunities such as cross-country, tennis, athletics, basketball and badminton. Competitive fixtures become a regular highlight, with parents warmly encouraged to support from the sidelines.

Years 3 and 4 take part in coeducational sport, building collaboration, confidence and equality. As pupils progress into Years 5 and 6, Games lessons transition to single sex where developmentally appropriate, while coeducational cricket continues in the summer. Throughout, specialist teachers support pupils in developing technique, teamwork and healthy competition.

Challenge and choice in Seniors

From Year 7 to Year 11, pupils benefit from a vibrant sports programme that balances breadth with challenge. Alongside major sports, Seniors can explore multisport pathways such as basketball, badminton, swimming, athletics, tennis and forest school-based activities. Weekly fixtures and practice squads help pupils develop discipline, leadership and pride as they represent the school.

Pupils are encouraged to participate in all team sports. We operate a spiral model that offers increasing choice as pupils move up the school, allowing older pupils to opt out of a greater number of team sports while still remaining active within the programme. Playing sport, particularly team sport, helps pupils develop resilience, collaboration, leadership and a strong sense of belonging. Through shared goals, collective challenge and positive competition, pupils learn to support one another, celebrate success and grow from setbacks. Whether competing at a high level or discovering a new passion, every pupil is supported to engage positively, confidently and with enthusiasm.

 A wholeschool culture of opportunity

Sport at Crosfields is more than physical activity – it reflects who we are: boundless, authentic, expert and embracing. Our diverse community, skilled staff and exceptional grounds create the conditions for every child to flourish. From first swims to senior fixtures, pupils are inspired to challenge themselves, support one another and take pride in their progress and achievements.
