With Crosfields Sixth Form opening in September 2027, excitement is building as plans continue to take shape.
Helping to lead this exciting new chapter is our new Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Clemency Woolner, a Religious Studies and Philosophy specialist with more than 15 years’ experience in the independent sector. Most recently Head of RS, she also brings senior leadership experience and a deep understanding of the academic, pastoral and enrichment opportunities that help young people flourish during their Sixth Form years.
We sat down with Mrs Woolner to talk about her ambitions for the Sixth Form, what pupils can expect from the experience, and why she believes joining our founding cohort is a unique opportunity.
What excites you most about creating Crosfields Sixth Form?
We have a rare opportunity to build something truly bespoke around our pupils. Without preconceived ideas about what a Sixth Form should look like, we can create an experience that reflects the interests, ambitions and needs of our cohort while preparing them for the opportunities and challenges of further study and work in the years ahead. The chance to place deep intellectual thinking and innovation at the heart of a Sixth Form built on strong academic foundations is incredibly exciting. These first cohorts will also leave a lasting legacy, helping to shape a culture defined by excellence and ambition, as well as community, friendship and fun.
What do you want the Sixth Form experience to feel like for pupils?
I want pupils to feel that this is the first real step towards independent adulthood, where they have both the freedom and the responsibility to make their own choices. Sixth Form marks an important shift; pupils begin to specialise in the subjects they are passionate about and have greater ownership of their future. I hope our pupils see this as an exciting opportunity to make the most of everything on offer while exploring the many pathways that could lie ahead.
How will you support pupils who aren’t yet sure what they want to do next?
The best way to support them is by giving them insight into a wide range of possibilities through visiting speakers, trips, enrichment opportunities and, most importantly, excellent teaching. I wouldn’t have discovered my love of Philosophy without teachers who brought the subject to life. That same passion for learning is something every Crosfields teacher will bring to our Sixth Form, helping pupils discover new interests and make informed choices about their future. Further to this, the relationships forged within the school and knowing each pupil as well as we do, will be a key support mechanism in ensuring all pupils get the best possible guidance for them and their future.
What opportunities do you hope pupils will embrace beyond the classroom?
I hope every Crosfields Sixth Form pupil takes the opportunity to try something that pushes them beyond their comfort zone, whether that’s exploring a new interest, developing a new skill or simply giving something a go because they’re curious. Sixth Form is a time of self-discovery. Often, you only find what you’re truly passionate about when you’re willing to step outside the familiar and embrace new experiences.
What does success mean to you?
Success looks different for everyone, but at its heart it is about understanding who you are and having the courage to pursue your goals. For me, success isn’t a destination. It’s about approaching whatever you’re doing with commitment, integrity and purpose, whether that is your studies, career, family life or a personal passion.

If you could go back what advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
Don’t choose subjects because you feel you should. Choose the ones you genuinely enjoy, and you’ll be far more likely to find a path that’s right for you. Also, don’t worry if you have absolutely no idea what you want to do in the future. Many people don’t. You don’t need to have everything mapped out. Focus on the decision immediately in front of you and trust that the bigger picture will come together over time with support and guidance.
What would you like to say to anyone considering becoming part of our founding Sixth Form cohort?
Do it! It takes courage to be a pioneer, but the rewards can be extraordinary. As part of Crosfields’ founding Sixth Form cohort, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape something new, leave a lasting legacy and play a key role in building a community from the very beginning. I’m incredibly excited to be taking this journey myself and I hope you’ll join me.
