Crosfields School to Open New Sixth Form in Reading in 2028

Crosfields School, in Reading, has announced plans to open a new Sixth Form in September 2028, marking a significant milestone in the school’s long‑term vision to provide a continuous, high‑quality education from early years through to Year 13.

The new Sixth Form will build on the school’s successful expansion to GCSEs and will give pupils the opportunity to continue their education during a crucial stage of academic and personal development. Designed to prepare students for life beyond school, the Sixth Form will strengthen Crosfields’ position within the Berkshire and Reading independent education landscape.

Preparing Pupils for Life Beyond GCSEs

The development reflects increasing demand from families seeking continuity of education beyond GCSE level, alongside a growing appetite for a seamless all-through educational journey within an independent school setting.

Caroline Townshend, Head of Crosfields School, said: “Introducing a Sixth Form is an exciting and natural progression for Crosfields. It reflects our commitment to providing an ambitious, future‑focused education that supports young people to thrive academically and personally. We are delighted to be taking this next step.”

Alison Atkinson, Chair of Governors, added: “The Board’s approval of the Sixth Form follows extensive planning and reflects our confidence in the school’s direction and leadership. This is a significant milestone for Crosfields and an investment in the long‑term success of our pupils and community.”

Over the coming months, Crosfields School will begin developing its Sixth Form academic pathways, co‑curricular programme and plans for a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. Facilities will include:

  • A dedicated library
  • Social and catering spaces
  • Quiet and collaborative study areas
  • Purpose‑built Sixth Form classrooms
